Max Truman has many reliable sources in the hockey world, and several well-placed friends. Of these, Luc Poirier gave him privileged information on the possible return of the Nordics which was brushed aside.
In fact, a few years ago, the Coyotes were on sale. Luc offered 380 million, even the asking price, to move the club to Quebec. The answer was no, because the commissioner wanted the Coyotes to stay in Arizona.
So Luc Poirier had to either agree to buy in Arizona or refuse to buy. His project was refused and the NHL demonstrated that it does not want hockey in Quebec.
Gary Bettman keeps saying that he is waiting for a concrete offer from private investors for Quebec, but what he fails to mention is that he has already received this offer in the past and that he has refused, even if the amount was adequate.
We can therefore forget the return of the Quebec Nordiques as long as Gary Bettman is at the helm, and everything will depend on his successor. If he plays on the same team, it won't really change.
Quebec therefore respected all requests, namely to have an amphitheater and a solid group of investors, in addition to a good base of supporters. They respected everything, and the NHL's answer remains no.
I don't know what it will take, but I'm starting to hope that Gary Bettman's days as NHL Commissioner are coming to an end.
