With a semifinal victory in the under 66 kilograms category on Tuesday, Algerian Imane Khelif has made headlines around the globe.

A showdown between the International Boxing Association (IBA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) continued with a new offensive from the international organization that governs boxing.

The TVA Sports website shared a new piece of information that caused a stir in Paris on Tuesday.

«The International Boxing Association (IBA), excluded from the Olympic movement a year ago, reaffirmed on Monday that two female boxers at the Olympics, at the heart of a gender controversy despite themselves, were men.'»

Without any subtlety, the IBA revealed new information regarding the genetic profiles of Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting, two athletes excluded by the IBA at the 2023 World Championships, as gender tests had shown anomalies leading the IBA to believe the two athletes were actually men.

«While they had participated in many competitions organized by the IBA, the organization excluded them from the 2023 World Championships, citing gender tests conducted at the 2022 World Championships in Istanbul and in 2023 in New Delhi. They had fought at the World Championships in New Delhi before being excluded, with one of them having her bronze medal taken away.»

Excluded from the 2024 Olympic tournament, the IBA is trying to proclaim its innocence and restore its reputation, while the International Olympic Committee is attempting to clear the names of the two boxers in question. On both sides, image is at the core of the concerns.

It should be noted that athletes Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting were ultimately allowed to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics, directly by the IOC, because the latter disputes the validity of the IBA's tests and considers the two athletes to be identified as women on their passports, a document that determines the gender identity of athletes.

Since then, the IOC has been staunchly defending their presence at the Paris Olympics.

The two boxers are currently in the semi-finals of the prestigious Olympic tournament. This fuels discussions, and critics are quick to accuse the IOC of «wokeism» at this point. On the other hand, internet users who want the two athletes expelled from the Olympic tournament are painted as intolerant.

Here is an excerpt discussing it.

«The organization held a press conference in Paris on Monday, attended via video conference by its leader, Russian businessman Umar Kremlev.

Former head of its medical commission Ioannis Filippatos stated that blood tests conducted on the two boxers in 2022 had revealed anomalies.' [...]

The medical result of the blood tests and the laboratories are saying this shows that these two boxers are men,' said Ioannis Filippatos. The problem is that we have two blood tests with male karyotypes. That is the lab's response,' he added.»

The complete text published on the TVA Sports website, whose link is placed at the bottom, allows readers to have a better understanding, even though the issue is particularly complex and poorly documented.

Let's just say that this statement has not ceased to spark discussions once again.

All Habs ensures to share all the data to facilitate the understanding of internet users without influencing their views on the subject. We believe that people are intelligent enough to form their own opinions.

That said, despite this recent major statement from the International Boxing Association (IBA), everything indicates that the two targeted boxers continue their Olympic journey. The two women have been ostracized multiple times in recent days, but the uncertainty surrounding their situation has only increased the discord and media lynching.

It remains to be seen whether Imane Khelif or Lin Yu-ting will be able to win the gold medal in their category. This situation could impact future events in the IOC and the amateur boxing community (IBA).
