Indeed, according to multiple sources, there is a huge gap between the player's salary demands and the contract that Ducks General Manager, Pat Verbeek, would be willing to offer him.
Several journalists have even stated that some teams, including the Buffalo Sabres, have contacted Anaheim to try to make a trade. Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising if Trevor Zegras is traded if contractual negotiations do not improve in the next two weeks.
Naturally, some Canadiens fans would very much like to see the Ducks' forward join his good friend, Cole Caufield, in Montreal.
In this regard, journalist Stu Cowan noted an interesting clue during the game between the Canadiens and the Devils, Monday night. Surprisingly, Pat Verbeek reportedly sent none other than his right-hand man, Rob DiMaio, who serves as the assistant general manager, to watch the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge's game.
Obviously, it's not unusual for scouts to be assigned to watch different games, but it is still strange that the assistant general manager himself made a personal appearance for this game.
This isn't a precursor sign that a transaction is about to be announced, but let's just say it's a funny coincidence, as Zegras' name has been linked to the Canadiens recently.
One thing is for sure, this will be a case to closely watch in the coming days!
