Last-minute signing: A promising young goaltender has just signed a two-year contract with the Flyers and it's Samuel Ersson
In the past few hours, the Philadelphia Flyers announced the signing of Swedish goaltender Samuel Ersson. The 23-year-old goaltender has signed a two-year contract extension worth $2.9 million.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Ersson made his NHL debut last season, posting a record of 6-3-0. However, with the arrival of Cal Petersen, it wouldn't be surprising for the young goaltender to continue honing his skills with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL next year.
Possessing intriguing potential, Samuel Ersson is a hidden gem who could easily disrupt the plans of the management as the 2024-2025 season approaches. This contract extension demonstrates the organization's high expectations for the young goaltender.
In 42 games with the Phantoms last year, Ersson achieved a record of 24 wins, 17 losses, and one overtime loss, while maintaining a goals-against average of 2.84 and a save percentage of .900.
Certainly, the Flyers have several promising goaltenders who will vie for a spot with the main team in the years to come.
