Montreal Canadiens: Martin St-Louis comments on Nick Suzuki's rough start to the season and displays his leadership
There are several players, like Alex Newhook, Tanner Pearson, and Juraj Slafkovsky, who are having strong starts to the season. On the other hand, some are slow to get going, and that's the case with Nick Suzuki.
The captain got an assist in the game against Toronto and nothing since. It's only been three games, so there's no need to panic, but his overall play hasn't been up to his usual standard.
Indeed, number 14 seems slow on the ice, as if he lacks energy at the start of the season. He definitely needs his coach, and Martin St-Louis is there for him.
"Nick will say it too, he needs to be better, but it's a long season, I'm not worried." - Martin St-Louis
True leaders don't need to be told that they're not playing up to par; they know it and are very demanding of themselves. The coach knows it too and always has confidence in his number one center.
There are still 79 games left for the Habs to play. With Cole Caufield healthy by his side and, hopefully, another quality winger, there's no doubt he will bounce back fairly quickly.
