Shocking statement: Brad Marchand gets into trouble
The captain of the Boston Bruins, Brad Marchand, is presently sidelined after being injured by Sam Bennett.
A seemingly innocuous hit, but a bit sneaky when viewed from other angles. Marchand could be suffering from a head injury, which is far from trivial.
In an interview, the captain was questioned about the hit, and his response surprised many. While it was expected that he might complain or dodge the question altogether, he somewhat endorsed Bennett's hit.
"I think he got away with a shot, but I'm not going to complain. Shit happens. It's definitely part of playoff hockey. People don't want to say it, but part of playoffs is trying to hurt every player on the other team...
When guys on the other team are hurt, it definitely benefits your team."
- Brad Marchand
We know Brad doesn't have the best reputation in this regard and has often given the impression of wanting to injure an opposing player.
Now, he's essentially admitting it in front of the media. Needless to say, the NHL's Department of Player Safety won't find it amusing.
Imagine when he himself makes a questionable hit, he'll automatically be in trouble. How can he argue lack of intent after such a statement?
Marchand has tallied 10 points in 10 games this year in the playoffs, and he's just missed his team's last two matchups. He seems to be on track to return tonight.
