Without being certain of what really happened, we knew that Corey Perry's contract was terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks due to an incident between him and a staff member.

Unfortunately, the details stopped there. Aside from alcohol being involved, there was nothing else. It is assumed that it must be serious for his contract to be terminated, but at the same time, if Gary Bettman allowed him to come back, it must not be so major.

Former Canadiens player John Scott revealed the information:

"Former NHL player John Scott, who started with NBC Sports Chicago in September of last year, stated on his podcast Dropping the Gloves that Perry had made advances towards a Blackhawks staff member who also worked for NBC Chicago Sports."

Given the Blackhawks' history of scandals, this kind of behavior is intolerable. They are literally walking on eggshells.

However, in the eyes of the NHL, it's behavior that can happen, and it may even happen quite regularly. Perry made a mistake one night in Columbus, had too much to drink, and made advances towards a staff member working at NBC.

"Corey Perry has been a model citizen in the NHL for about 18 years. He made a mistake in Columbus one night, had too much to drink, and made advances towards a staff member working at NBC."

This doesn't excuse the action, but it helps us understand why all of this has become such a big deal. With any other team, it might not have had such consequences.

"If it's another team, he's still on the team, still with them. And he might have just had a little slap on the wrist, and maybe a minor fine or suspension."
