The Montreal Canadiens lose a forward in their organization, and it's the American Ty Smilanic
Ty Smilanic's progression has been very unorthodox. Acquired in the trade sending Ben Chiarot to Florida, the forward decided to prematurely leave NCAA to fully focus on his professional career.
A few days later, he learned that the Canadiens didn't offer him a contract, and he became a free agent in June. It was during the summer that he returned to the organization, joining the Lions de Trois-Rivières.
With seven points, including one goal, in 31 games this season in the ECHL, Smilanic apparently didn't make the right decision in cutting his progression.
It's sad for him, but not as much as the recent announcement made by the Lions.
"The Lions de Trois-Rivières announce that forward Ty Smilanic will be kept away from the game for an indefinite period for personal reasons. We fully support Ty in his decision." - Trois-Rivières Lions
We currently don't have more details, but it must be serious for the young man to leave in such a manner. Let's truly hope that everything will turn out for the best. Sending him positive vibes!
