Monstrous suspension for David Perron, and it will cost him dearly
In Saturday night's match between the Red Wings and the Senators, a truly concerning scene unfolded involving the Wings' captain, Dylan Larkin.
What appeared to be a routine play in front of the net took a bad turn for him, and he fell to the ice like a brick. He had clearly lost consciousness.
The good news is that he regained consciousness and skated off the ice on his own legs, albeit with some difficulty. It was later reported that scans were clear, which is also reassuring.
On the play, David Perron took issue with Artem Zub, delivering a violent cross-check directly to the head.
While it was a nasty move intended to defend his captain, it did not go unpunished. The Department of Player Safety has made its decision, and the penalty is significant.
Perron is facing a six-game suspension. Not only was he called for a hearing, but he had to appear in person for the discussion.
Let's hope this serves as a lesson, and, more importantly, that Larkin makes a quick and full recovery. Perron will lose a significant amount of money due to his actions.
