It is now confirmed for Leon Draisaitl and he becomes the highest-paid player in NHL history
Rumors surrounding Leon Draisaitl have been plentiful since his agent confirmed that he wanted a contract extension this summer, otherwise he would explore the free-agent market in July 2025.
When it comes to pressure, that's exactly what the Oilers' GM must have been experiencing in recent weeks, but he has just been relieved of it.
Indeed, the star forward has signed for 8 years at $14 million per year, the highest total in NHL history.
Leon Draisaitl had even been linked to the Canadiens, but rumors were stronger around Boston. We are now certain, as he will remain in Edmonton with his good friend Connor McDavid for a long time.
I don't know what the captain's next deal will look like, but if Leon Draisaitl is worth $14 million, we can expect him to earn $15 or even $16 million when he signs his new contract.
His current deal ends on June 30, 2026, so he will be eligible for an extension on July 1, 2025.
