Former Canadiens player Nick Cousins was destroyed, and Erik Gudbranson will have to explain his actions
In the duel between the Florida Panthers and the Columbus Blue Jackets, forward Nick Cousins finished his check on defenseman Erik Gudbranson with a rather questionable hit that sent the defenseman to the ice.
The defenseman then rushed at Cousins, but the situation did not escalate further in that sequence. It was later in the game that the time for revenge arrived.
Indeed, Cousins entered the Jackets' zone on Gudbranson's side, and the defenseman literally jumped on him. He delivered several punches in an enraged manner.
It's understandable that Cousins' initial action was reprehensible; the referees probably should have ejected him from the game. However, the end result is that Gudbranson will have ahearing with the NHL and will have to explain himself to the DoPS.
So, it's the defenseman who faces a potential suspension. We will have more details later in the day. As for Cousins, he had difficulty getting up after the barrage of punches.
