The Florida Panthers have just won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, defeating the Edmonton Oilers, much to Gary Bettman's delight.

Indeed, Bettman's preferences for American teams, especially those in the southern United States, are well-known. It's no secret to anyone.

Rest assured, no rules were circumvented for their victory. The Panthers won legitimately, as far as we know.

However, there was a special permission granted by the commissioner regarding the names engraved on the Stanley Cup.

Two players who do not meet the NHL's rules for having their names engraved on the trophy will still receive this honor due to a special request from the Panthers.

"The NHL made two exceptions for Panthers players to have their names engraved on the Stanley Cup, despite not meeting the games played requirements:

Jonah Gadjovich
Josh Mahura."

Both players played fewer than 40 regular-season games and did not participate in the playoffs.

For Gadjovich, he never played a playoff game, yet his name will still be engraved on the Cup. Quite special, isn't it?

In any case, this decision is causing quite a stir among fans, who are not entirely in agreement with it.
