What happened?
Several analysts were convinced that Vladislav Firstov would return to the team, but there seems to have been a change of decision regarding the young Russian player.
He has just been placed on unconditional waivers by the NHL and will become a free agent. This is a first of its kind during the 2024 spring dance.
Vladislav Firstov placed on unconditional waivers by the Minnesota Wild
This news was confirmed by the reputable site CapFriendly, a reference tool for tracking the contractual situations of Bettman circuit players and team prospects.
Other teams in the National Hockey League have until 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon to claim the player's rights.
At 22 years old, Firstov was selected in the 2nd round by the Minnesota Wild in 2019 (42nd overall pick).
Standing at 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, he is known for his offensive skills. After tallying 35 points in 67 games in the KHL, he crossed the Atlantic to make his North American debut. With the Wild's farm team, Firstov recorded 4 points in 10 games this season with the Iowa Wild.
Firstov will certainly interest several teams desperately seeking offensive talent. And why not the CH? Could he become a hidden gem in a top-9 when he reaches maturity?
That's an excellent question! Kent Hughes must consider the implications of such a choice!
Details to follow.
