As expected, the Laval Rocket announced in the last few minutes that Cayden Primeau will be the starting goaltender for tonight's game against the Toronto Marlies at Place Bell. This decision is now officially confirmed.
"As expected, it's Cayden Primeau who will face the Marlies tonight at Place Bell." - Anthony Marcotte, BPM Sports
Indeed, the Montreal Canadiens did not recall any additional goaltenders, which means that Samuel Montembeault will be the starting goaltender for tonight's game. However, the question of his backup remains uncertain, as it is still unclear whether Jake Allen will be able to dress due to his injury. The goaltending situation for the Canadiens is therefore very interesting to follow.
"Montembeault will be in goal against the Islanders. Martin St-Louis says he doesn't know who will be the backup on the bench. [...] Allen is still absent from practice." - Andrée-Anne Barbeau
Indeed, the identity of Montembeault's backup remains unknown at the moment and the Canadiens may have to call upon an emergency goalie to complete their duo in net.
If that happens, it would certainly make for a great story, as emergency goalies are often local or amateur players who live out a fleeting dream by donning an NHL team's uniform.
