A terrifying Scene Occurred During the Leafs Development Camp
Just recently, we witnessed a terrifying scene during an intra-team match that took place at the Toronto Maple Leafs development camp.
Indeed, Roni Hirvonen, one of the organization's top prospects, fell victim to a violent check, remaining on the ice for many seconds.
Hayley Wickenheiser, who now holds a position in the Maple Leafs player development department, confirmed that the 21-year-old had suffered a concussion and would have to take some time off.
"Hayley Wickenheiser stated that Roni Hirvonen suffered a concussion following the hit and will need some time to recover. Hirvonen said it was a legal check."
Toronto fans seemed furious with Nolan Dillingham after this questionable hit. No valid reason can explain such an action, especially when you are playing against players from your own organization and it is the last day of the development camp.
"There is no reason for Nolan Dillingham to do this during an intra-team match, especially at the expense of one of the Leafs' top prospects. This is how you lose a contract, not earn one."
Roni Hirvonen, aged 21, was selected in the second round during the 2020 draft. He scored 15 goals and 13 assists (28 points) in 57 games with HIFK Helsinki in the Finnish elite league last season.
We strongly hope that he will recover from this injury very quickly!
