An unexpected new destination for Patrick Roy? It could cause a spark
Patrick Roy never ceases to impress us!
As a goaltender, he holds the record for the most Stanley Cup wins with his 4 final victories (2 with the Canadiens and 2 with the Avalanche). He is also the only player in NHL history to have won the Conn Smythe trophy 3 times in his career.
Now as a coach, he wins the Gilles-Courteau trophy for the second time, given to the winning team of the QMJHL playoffs.
Finally, the Quebec Remparts have won the CHL Memorial Cup. We can therefore say that Roy is a big name in the coaching world!
Having been the head coach of the Remparts for 13 seasons, Patrick Roy could now make the jump to the NHL. Several teams looking for a coach have apparently been linked with the former goaltender. However, despite his victories and exploits, the majority of clubs have quietly backed away.
The Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals have hired coaches with less experience than Roy. The Anaheim Ducks did not seem very interested in the idea either.
The numerous rumors surrounding the Quebecer and the New York Rangers have finally ceased since the team announced they are not considering Roy for the position. Finally, Mike Babcock has been named the new coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets while Ryan Huska has obtained the position with the Calgary Flames.
However, a team not yet named would be the Ottawa Senators. In a world where DJ Smith is not back behind the Sens' bench, Patrick Roy could be a perfect face representing the team and possibly attracting more fans.
After coming close to hiring the Quebecer, the Senators finally chose Smith in 2019, but now that the team is back on the market, a group of buyers are reportedly interested in Roy. Pierre Dorion, the Sens' GM, is also interested and everyone knows this would greatly help the organization in terms of marketing.
This could be a golden opportunity for the organization, and of course for Patrick Roy!
