Arber Xhekaj makes a significant statement about Jayden Struble, the player who took his place with the Canadiens
Even if the organization denies it, it doesn't take a hockey expert to see that Jayden Struble has taken Arber Xhekaj's spot in the Canadiens' lineup.
What's happening right now is phenomenal: Struble is playing like a seasoned veteran. There aren't many flaws in his game, and he's forcing Martin St-Louis and Kent Hughes to keep him in the lineup.
Xhekaj's stay in Laval could be prolonged, and he is well aware of it. He remains very attentive to what's happening at the NHL level with his successor.
"Oh, I watch the games," said Xhekaj. The games, and Jayden Struble." - Marc-Antoine Godin
Number 72 is playing well in Laval and maintains a good mindset, even though he seems somewhat disappointed with how things have turned out.
"He came into the team and played well. He doesn't make mistakes, he uses his stick well. There's no reason for them to bench him. It's a good problem for them to have, but obviously, from our side, it pushes us to work harder and try to earn our spot." - Arber Xhekaj
There have been many trade rumors involving the sheriff after his assignment to Laval. He also discussed the organization's plan with him, and he fully subscribes to it:
"I don't think they want me to be a sixth or seventh defenseman in Montreal. I think they want me to be a top player who will eventually play 20 minutes, and I'm working towards that. So, I think I just need to clean up my game in the defensive zone and hope it translates up there." - Arber Xhekaj
One thing is certain, Xhekaj is working very hard right now, and it shows. His contribution is significant in Laval, and if he continues in this manner, he will undoubtedly get another chance in the NHL.
