Remember that famous game in Buffalo when everyone was saying he was far from the dominant defenseman we had heard about? He had played so poorly in his first Rookie Tournament game. The next game, his performance was already greatly improved.
At training camp, he impressed so much that there was speculation he might make the team. Ultimately, the organization decided to give him time to learn to be a true professional in Laval, and it was the right path to take.
After a more modest start in the AHL, Mailloux recorded 16 points in his last 23 games. He ranks third among league rookies for defensemen, behind future stars Olen Zellweger and Brandt Clarke.
His development is truly in good hands, and the young player is becoming exactly what the organization envisioned. If he continues to play like this, he will be a significant asset for the Canadiens in all game situations.
