Arber Xhekaj sent back to Laval? We have a strong hint confirming that it won't happen anytime soon
It was Brendan Gallagher's unnecessary and dangerous hit that grabbed attention during the game against the New York Islanders. We are still awaiting the final verdict as of writing these lines.
However, several players received unnecessary penalties, putting their team in hot water, forcing Samuel Montembeault to shine once again to secure the win.
Arber Xhekaj received two avoidable penalties, and in the post-game press conference, Martin St-Louis openly admitted that he was not pleased.
This morning, many hockey journalists and analysts even suggested that the defenseman would soon be sent back to Laval. However, there was a turnaround this morning.
Xhekaj went to apologize to his coach and teammates, a clear demonstration of maturity and introspection.
"In his first game since the call-up, Arber Xhekaj took a penalty Tuesday against the Sens. Yesterday he was penalized twice. Respect for the young man. This morning, at the beginning of practice, we saw him talking for a long time with the coach. He wanted to offer him apologies." - Luc Gélinas, RDS
The young man also explained himself, and it was important for him to talk to the coaches and his teammates. He wants to make amends.
The response from the coaches and other players clearly indicates that he is here to stay.
"We were up 3-0. I made a turnover at their blue line and took a penalty on the sequence. It was two penalties that could have been avoided," he continued. "They told me to forget about it, to focus on practice. That today was a brand new day." - Arber Xhekaj
With this kind of behavior, the team will grow in the right direction. Now, it's time to roll up the sleeves and work to demonstrate a genuine desire to help the team. The ball is in his court.
