In the past few hours, we have learned excellent news about the new number 15 for the Montreal Canadiens, Alex Newhook.

Surprisingly, despite being only 22 years old, the Victoria Grizzlies, his former junior team in the BCHL, announced that his number 18 will be retired on October 6th.

Wow! It's quite an honor for a young player of his age!

"We couldn't be prouder to announce that on October 6th, we will eternally engrave Alex Newhook in the history of the Grizzlies by officially retiring his jersey #18." - Victoria Grizzlies

During his time with the Grizzlies, Alex Newhook was simply dominant, scoring 22 goals and 44 assists (66 points) in 45 games in his first season.

While these statistics are impressive for a 17-year-old player, the new center of the Tricolore was even better in his draft year.

Indeed, Newhook had a remarkable season in 2018-2019, scoring 34 goals and 68 assists (102 points) in 53 games. Moreover, he also recorded a sensational total of 24 points in 15 playoff games before being selected 16th overall by the Colorado Avalanche.

Although the BCHL is less known than the other junior leagues of the CHL, excellent players such as Jamie Benn, Ryan Johansen, Devon Toews, Kent Johnson, and Alex Kerfoot played in this league before having a successful career in the NHL, and Alex Newhook is no exception to this list.

We would like to congratulate Alex Newhook on this well-deserved achievement!
