The next player to be traded by Kent Hughes has reportedly been targeted by the excellent journalist Eric Engels
Following the trade of Jeff Petry earlier this week, the excellent journalist Eric Engels has raised the name of the next player to be traded by Kent Hughes in the upcoming days.
Engels, who has been covering the Canadiens for several years, has strong contacts within the organization, which adds credibility to his publicly stated remarks. Here's what he mentioned recently:
"I don't necessarily think Kent Hughes is going to change everything by the start of training camp, but don't necessarily believe that he's finished. I think there's a chance he'll move DeSmith at some point. Not a guarantee, but a chance." - Eric Engels
All signs point to the next player leaving the ship for the Habs being the other newcomer to the team, goaltender Casey DeSmith. Clearly, due to the fact that the club currently has four goaltenders with NHL contracts, including Cayden Primeau, it's evident that the shopping of the Canadiens' GM is not yet finished.
Although it would be more appealing to trade Jake Allen with his two-year, $3.85 million contract, especially considering DeSmith has posted much better statistics in recent years, it appears evident that moving Jake's contract will be considerably more challenging than the one-season, $1.8 million deal of the former Penguin.
If you had the choice, which goaltender would you keep in Montreal to back up Samuel Montembeault?
