Contract extension or trade for Sean Monahan: the verdict is said to be known
Beyond the goaltending issues at the Canadiens, the future of Sean Monahan with the team is also generating a lot of discussion.
There are two schools of thought: either extend his contract or trade him at the deadline.
The thing is, a healthy Sean Monahan is hard to replace. The veteran still has good hockey to offer and plays a key role in a young team like the Canadiens, both on and off the ice.
Opinions are highly divided, but there's a better idea of the club's intentions thanks to David Pagnotta.
According to the insider, Kent Hughes and the Canadiens are very interested in extending his contract. The return from a trade involving him might not have as much value as what he brings to the team.
He even suggests that negotiations could start in early 2024, after the holiday season. Now, it remains to be seen what the player desires. Becoming a free agent this summer, he holds a strong position in the negotiations.
