In the past few days, many journalists such as Arpon Basu from The Athletic and Alexandre Gascon from Radio-Canada have confirmed that Kent Hughes is actively looking to move up a few spots for the draft that will take place in less than two weeks.
Moreover, according to an article by Jonathan Bernier on TVA Sports, the Canadiens would be ready to pay a high price to ensure they can get their hands on one of the three available center players ranked between the 2nd and 4th place (Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson, and Will Smith).
Indeed, Jonathan Bernier had the opportunity to speak with an NHL executive who confirmed that the general manager of the Canadiens is very aggressive in the offers he makes to his counterparts, who are absolutely looking to climb a few ranks in anticipation of June 28th.
The Canadiens are very aggressive to climb into the top four. They are ready to pay dearly. Let's not kid ourselves. The player the Canadiens want is Will Smith."
The executive, who wished to remain anonymous, made a huge statement by mentioning that the Canadiens might possibly trade a young defender to facilitate a transaction, explicitly naming Logan Mailloux as trade currency.
With all the young defenders in the Canadiens network, it could certainly be one or two of them in addition to two draft picks. Logan Mailloux, perhaps? I don't think he would fit with a Canadiens jersey on his back."
Wow! Kent Hughes seems ready to do anything to acquire a top-notch center player. We look forward to seeing if the general manager of the CH will be able to conclude a transaction!
