Devastating News in the Hockey World as One of the Leafs' Top Prospects Just Lost His Father
In the last few hours, Chris Johnston of TSN has reported simply devastating news.
Indeed, Timo Hirvonen, the father of one of the Toronto Maple Leafs' top prospects, Roni Hirvonen, has passed away at the age of just 49. The former Finnish forward played 14 seasons in the SM-Liiga, even representing his country at the 1992-1993 Junior World Championship.
"Sad news. Timo Hirvonen, long-time SM-liiga player and father of Roni Hirvonen, Toronto Leafs prospect, has passed away at the age of 49.
Condolences to the family." - Chris Johnston
Roni Hirvonen, selected in the 2nd round of the 2020 draft, was notably coached by his father with HIFK Helsinki. The 21-year-old forward collected 13 goals and 15 assists (28 points) in 57 games in the Finnish elite league last season.
We wish to extend our deepest condolences to Roni Hirvonen and his entire family following this tragedy.
