Dominique Ducharme has just reacted to Jeff Petry's return and it says a lot about the person he is
Dominique Ducharme's tenure as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens was anything but restful. In fact, it was a veritable roller coaster, leading his club to the Stanley Cup finals against all odds, only to have one of the worst seasons in franchise history the following year, which cost him his job.
If you remember that season, which could be described as catastrophic for the organization, there was a great deal of turmoil between the coach and defenseman Jeff Petry, as the latter openly criticized his coach on several occasions, up until his dismissal in February.
Even journalists covering the Canadiens reacted numerous times to the situation between the two men:
Naturally, this caused quite a stir in Montreal and fueled the controversy surrounding the American defenseman's inconsistent season.
Regarding Petry's return to the CH, Ducharme has just commented on the situation, having never previously attempted to publicly respond to Petry.
True to his reputation as a class act, the former Canadiens coach defended his former player by noting that his difficult family situation had weighed heavily on his morale and his play on the ice.
"With his family far away, it's not easy. He's a good family man who is very close to his family. So, having them far away like that, it was certainly a significant challenge. It affected him both personally and on the ice." Dominique Ducharme
The man who is now the assistant coach of the Vegas Golden Knights adds that he wishes him the best.
"I wish him the best because he's a good guy, and he's someone who can help a team." Dominique Ducharme
We love the comments from the Quebecer who proves he's a person of great quality. The hatchet is definitely buried between the two men.
