Since we learned that Jeff Petry was heading to Montreal, speculation has exploded as to what would happen to the veteran defenseman who had left the team in a controversial way a year earlier.
In fact, a very big revelation has surfaced about Petry's situation by insider David Pagnotta, as we have just learned that Kent Hughes was already shopping his future acquisition even before he was officially a member of the Canadiens.
This confirms that the fate of the 35-year-old defenseman is already sealed within the Tricolore organization. The GM wants to take advantage of the 25% salary reduction of the latter, which was retained by the Penguins, to trade him again and profit by obtaining other future elements for the team.
With the possibility that the CH can absorb 50% of Petry's contract in a future transaction to increase its value, it is possible that Hughes could get a more than satisfying return.
After all, despite a difficult season, number 26 played more than 22 minutes on average last year, and he posted a very interesting offensive production of 31 points in 61 games.
At a salary of less than $3 million, he would certainly become a great bargain for a team contending for the Stanley Cup.
