The news that was revealed last night in connection with Pierre-Luc Dubois categorically refusing to negotiate a new deal with the Winnipeg Jets had the effect of a bombshell in Montreal.

His agent confirmed that his client wouldn't even want to stay in Winnipeg, even if he signed for one season, before officially becoming an unrestricted free agent. Therefore, the Quebec native forward would like to be traded as early as this summer.

The Jets organization is now facing a serious problem. Since Dubois does not wish to negotiate with them this summer, this forces the organization to get rid of him right now.

However, all teams in the league now know that they have no choice but to trade Dubois, which means that the Jets will no longer hold the upper hand.

In addition, if Dubois holds firm and does not agree to terms with the teams with which Winnipeg is negotiating, they will not be able to conclude a deal, as these teams will require to have an agreement with the player, before finalizing the trade.

Moreover, insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the Canadiens were certainly in the running for PLD's services. However, he adds that knowing that the Jets are now back against the wall in this matter, Kent Hughes would have put his foot down in the negotiations for the latter. He would not be ready to pay an excessive price for him.

Various sources had mentioned that the Manitoba organization had asked for Nick Suzuki or Kirby Dach in return for Dubois. Needless to say, knowing the current stakes, Hughes will not enter into a transaction before having a favorable price for the Canadiens.

This case is likely to gain momentum as the draft day approaches.
