Jake Allen on his way out of Montreal? There was a special guest at the Bell Centre and it would make a lot of sense
There was significant attention at the Bell Centre on Saturday night during the matchup between the Canadiens and the Capitals. Tampa Bay Lightning's General Manager, Julien Brisebois, was in attendance, and it sparked considerable speculation.
Why?
Because the Lightning is currently without Andrei Vasilevskiy for several weeks, and they have American Hockey League (AHL) goaltenders tending their net. Since the Canadiens have three goaltenders in Jake Allen, Samuel Montembeault, and Cayden Primeau, the connection is easy to make. If Brisebois really made the trip to watch Allen in action, he got a treat, as it was one of the best performances by number 34 in a Canadiens uniform.
There are several possible reasons for his presence. Anthony Mantha is also available from the Capitals, and Brisebois is known for his affinity for Quebec-born players.
Regardless, Brisebois will need to be very astute, as the team has limited salary cap space and not many noteworthy draft picks to offer.
