Martin St-Louis is fed up and he's sending a message to the media: many will certainly have learned their lesson
We know the city is all about hockey, and the fans are passionate, but sometimes, they need to be brought back on the right track because they tend to dwell on the negative.
In a press conference after the victory against the Washington Capitals in overtime, Martin St-Louis delivered a clear message regarding the negativity. It's true that the Canadiens are struggling on the power play and allowed two goals during the same penalty kill against the Wild, but the season has just begun.
"You [the media] focus more on the negative, on what needs to be corrected. [...] In fact, in the dictionary, there are four negative words for every positive word."
- Martin St-Louis
What the coach means is that nothing is perfect, and it never will be. There will always be room for improvement, and instead of dwelling on the negative (noting that the Canadiens did score on the power play), the focus should be on building upon what they are doing well.
For example, at five-on-five, the Canadiens haven't allowed a goal in over 120 minutes of play, which is more than two games. The players are responsible and dominant in this aspect of the game. With discipline, it will make them a challenging team to beat.
It's a safe bet that at the next press conference, many will ask more positive or, at the very least, more constructive questions to the coach!
