The Lightning participated in three consecutive Stanley Cup Finals and managed to lift the precious trophy twice. Unless there is a major turnaround, they will be eliminated by the Maple Leafs in the first round this season.
Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy was outstanding during the two Cup wins, but his numbers are very different now. Former assistant coach Derek Lalonde mentioned on Sportsnet that the star goalie has a weakness with shots from the point, and that the team had completely revamped its defense to compensate for this shortcoming.
Asked about the comments from his former trusted man, Jon Cooper didn't find it funny.
He's only there because he was an assistant coach on that team. So he's trying to provide insight and try to give something relevant to the fans, and he should do it for real instead. He just has to make sure it's accurate. - Via Lightning Insider
Obviously, Cooper is trying to calm things down and shift the focus elsewhere with a statement that makes Lalonde look like a liar.
Sportsnet pays him well to give his opinion, so he has to make up something about these kinds of things. - Jon Cooper
Did Derek Lalonde lack judgment for revealing such information during the playoffs? Many believe he did, and that Jon Cooper is right to be angry.
