Kent Hughes is reportedly about to sign a contract with a Hometown forward, as center Brandon Gignac is having an outstanding season
Facing the harsh reality with the trade of Sean Monahan and injuries to Kirby Dach, Christian Dvorak, and Alex Newhook, the Canadiens are seriously struggling in the center position.
Currently, there are only two players who can anchor a line: Nick Suzuki and Jake Evans. This is a real issue, especially considering that Lucas Condotta and Mitchell Stephens may not be able to handle significant minutes in the NHL if recalled.
Kent Hughes might not have a choice but to turn to the 4th highest scorer in the entire American Hockey League, Brandon Gignac.
The Hometown forward cannot be called up by the Canadiens due to his one-way AHL contract. Therefore, the Canadiens' GM will have to sign him to a two-way contract before such a move can happen.
"In light of his recent performances, don't be surprised if the Canadiens offer a two-way contract to Brandon Gignac for the rest of the season and for 24-25.
The former Devils' pick deserves this contract and the opportunity to play games." - Stéphane Leroux, RDS
Leroux doesn't just stop at this year but looks ahead to the next as well. Gignac has been sensational this season, and his confidence could well translate to the next level.
