Kent Hughes made a statement that speaks volumes about Michkov following his meeting with the Russian
For the past few weeks, there seems to be a consensus across the NHL regarding the first four picks in the upcoming draft. Indeed, according to numerous experts, Connor Bedard, Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson, and Will Smith will be selected in the top-4 tomorrow night.
If such a scenario occurs, it would mean that Kent Hughes faces a massive dilemma that will have a major impact on the future of the organization. Indeed, the Canadiens' top brass will have to decide whether to draft the young Russian phenom, Matvei Michkov. Although he is the most controversial prospect of the 2023 class, there is no doubt that the 18-year-old has immense potential and could prove to be a real steal at the fifth spot.
While some believed that the Canadiens would take a different direction when Kent Hughes takes the stand at Bridgestone Arena, the Canadiens' general manager made an interesting statement during his press conference this afternoon. Indeed, Hughes seemed very complimentary of Matvei Michkov following his meeting with him.
"A good first impression. It's different when you use a translator, you try to read his body language. I found his answers to be smart and mature." - Kent Hughes
Wow! This is excellent news for Habs fans who dream of seeing him in the Canadiens uniform. We strongly hope that the Habs will set their sights on this young front-line player.
One thing is certain, the wait is almost over as we are only 24 hours away from the draft!
