Last-minute development concerning Pierre-Luc Dubois and the Canadiens
There has just been a new last-minute twist in the Pierre-Luc Dubois saga.
After making a final big push in the last hours, the Montreal Canadiens appear to be on the verge of being excluded from the picture for the 25-year-old Quebecois player. TSN insider Darren Dreger mentions that Montreal ultimately failed to make progress in the negotiations.
"Indications are the Montreal Canadiens have tried to get back into the mix for Pierre-Luc Dubois, but haven't been able to gain traction. Montreal has «future» assets, but Wpg needs NHL ready players. LA has that and it appears PLD prefers the LA option. Developing story."
- Darren Dreger
Dreger even asserts that Dubois now prefers the option of heading to Los Angeles.
This information suggests that it is possible that Montreal submitted a contract offer to PLD, which could have turned the tide in the trade negotiations, but the player potentially prefers the Kings' offer.
The insider adds that everything is still developing, but it appears to be a done deal for the Canadiens, especially since L.A.'s trade offer better meets the Jets' demands for their player's services.
Further details will follow.
