Last-minute development involving Matvei Michkov and the Montreal Canadiens
Over the past few days, Bob McKenzie has confirmed that Russian phenom Matvei Michkov will be meeting with various teams ahead of the upcoming draft. Reports have been circulating that the Montreal Canadiens would get a chance to speak with him in person and now it is confirmed at 100%.
According to Frank Seravalli, it is indeed true that the Tricolore are one of the teams who will have an opportunity to interact with the 18-year-old in the near future.
This is certainly great news and seems to demonstrate a genuine interest from Montreal's side when it comes to Michkov. It remains to be seen how far their interest goes but this could potentially be an exciting moment for both parties.
It is undeniable that this meeting could have an enormous impact on the decision of Kent Hughes regarding the 5th overall pick. Moreover, knowing that Matvei Michkov does not wish to meet all teams, it is a rather interesting sign to see that a discussion with the Canadiens is already scheduled for the Russian prodigy.
We can only hope that the highly talented forward will be able to convince Montreal's management that he is the best possible choice and that they would make a grave mistake by not selecting him at spot number five.
