There is no doubt that injuries greatly contributed to the Canadiens' failures last season, a team that set a record in NHL history for the highest number of missed games. However, the management tried to remedy the situation by hiring two former members of the New York Rangers, Jim Ramsay and Maxime Gauthier.

"Jim Ramsay has been appointed Director of Sports Medicine and Performance as well as the Chief Sports Therapist, while Maxime Gauthier becomes the Chief Physiotherapist."

However, on the eve of training camp, Renaud Lavoie just revealed a major piece of information during his daily column on BPM Sports' waves. Indeed, according to his sources, the defender Chris Wideman is currently suffering from a back injury and might miss the start of the regular season.

Moreover, this is the same injury that had greatly affected him at the end of the 2022-2023 season, he who was clearly not at 100% during the last games of the regular schedule. Let's just hope that this news is not an indication of what will happen this year, as the Tricolore will absolutely need to rely on healthy players if they wish to achieve success.

Knowing that Chris Wideman might potentially miss the start of the season, it therefore means that Arber Xhekaj, Justin Barron, Jonathan Kovacevic, and Gustav Lindstrom will be in a heated battle to secure the last three available spots within the Montreal defense.

This will be a case to watch closely during the training camp!
