Major: Arber Xhekaj useless to the Canadiens? A scene proves beyond a doubt that the team needs its sheriff
The Los Angeles Kings were the visitors at the Bell Centre on Thursday night. For the occasion, Pierre-Luc Dubois faced Canadiens fans for the first time since deciding to sign with the Kings.
However, it wasn't Dubois who drew attention in this one-sided game but rather the inaction of the players in the face of physical play.
Drew Doughty delivered a head hit to Justin Barron, and absolutely no one went to pay him a visit. That's unacceptable.
It's for situations like this that Xhekaj must stay in Montreal. Not only would he have taken action, but Doughty would have thought twice before delivering that hit to Barron.
If no one comes to the defense of their teammates, as was the case yesterday, actions like Doughty's will recur. No one will fear the Habs, and the usefulness of Xhekaj is beyond doubt.
