Major: Kaiden Guhle a Future Norris Trophy Winner? That's What a Former Canadiens Player Believes
I had the chance to attend Saturday night's game at the Bell Centre, and I was even luckier to run into a former Canadiens player who agreed to chat with me for five minutes.
It's incredible how some people are approachable, and he was clearly one of them. We talked about the Canadiens' prospects, and according to him, Kaiden Guhle is the team's star, to the point that he could win a Norris Trophy one day.
This former player, who prefers to remain anonymous, supports his statement by pointing out that the number 21 is already extremely solid, and his potential is far from being reached.
At just 21 years old, he plays like a veteran on the ice, with 8 points in 20 games and a +3 differential. Imagine what he will be able to accomplish at 25.
For him, there is no doubt that Guhle will eventually be among the NHL's defensive elite.
Félix Séguin added to this recently, comparing Guhle to Ryan McDonagh.
"When I watch him on the ice or listen to him speak in the locker room, I see in him the defenseman Ryan McDonagh. McDonagh is not the most spectacular. No. However, I always believed that the efficiency and solidity of his game propelled him among the most reliable defenders in the NHL. At a certain point in his career, I thought McDonagh was one of the best defensive defensemen in the league."
- Félix Séguin
It's really his production that will determine if he can win the Norris one day. We know that the title of the NHL's best defenseman is awarded annually to a player who produces a lot of points, creating a certain debate.
The NHL might consider introducing a trophy for the best offensive defenseman and another for the best defensive one.
