According to the former goaltending coach for the Habs, Fleury could sign with the Canadiens as a free agent and finish his career in front of family and friends.
It would be incredible for him and for all hockey fans in Quebec, no doubt about that. I would be the first to be happy, especially since Fleury is a gentleman and still a very good hockey player.
But let's be a bit realistic. Kent Hughes mentioned on the show "L'Antichambre" on Monday night that there's a possibility the goaltending trio could persist throughout the season. I find it hard to see how he could add another goaltender when he can't get his asking price for Allen or Primeau.
However, it must be acknowledged that a goaltending duo consisting of Samuel Montembeault and Marc-André Fleury would be amazing for the Canadiens.
Waite adds that Monty must play in the net at least 70% of the time next year, or it will become a problem in the locker room. It's a bit contradictory.
This means that Kent Hughes would get rid of Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau to sign Fleury for one year. It doesn't make sense, unfortunately, and I doubt the GM of the Canadiens would make such a decision.
