Major surprise on the NHL waivers: Kent Hughes has the opportunity to acquire a very talented offensive forward
In the last few minutes, a huge surprise emerged as the Tampa Bay Lightning placed Quebecer forward Alex Bourré-Boulet on the NHL waivers. This news has notably surprised several observers given that the 26-year-old forward was simply dominant in the AHL last year.
Recently linked to the Montreal Canadiens, it will be interesting to see if General Manager Kent Hughes will want to take a chance with the 26-year-old forward. There's no doubt that Barré-Boulet has nothing left to prove in the American league, as he wishes to get an opportunity to showcase himself in the NHL.
Indeed, since starting his professional career in 2018, the forward from Montmagny is the second most productive player in the entire AHL with a total of 284 points in 271 games. He notably had an extraordinary season in 2022-2023, collecting 24 goals and 60 assists (84 points) in just 69 games.
It wouldn't be surprising to see him emerge in the NHL if a team is ready to give him a chance to show the full extent of his talent. Will Kent Hughes decide to bring him to Montreal? One thing is certain, this will be a story to follow in the coming hours.
