Monster statement from Cale Makar regarding a former Canadiens forward
Montreal fans were very excited when Marc Bergevin officially acquired Jonathan Drouin in exchange for Mikhail Sergachev on June 15, 2017. Unfortunately, the Quebecer never lived up to expectations during his six seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, while Sergachev became a cornerstone at the blue line for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
After a challenging stint with the Tricolore, Drouin signed a one-season deal valued at $825,000 with the Colorado Avalanche, hoping to revive his career alongside his former teammate from the Halifax Mooseheads, Nathan MacKinnon.
Cale Makar, who will officially be the new face of the upcoming NHL game edition, met with the media on Monday to discuss this honor. The defenseman was notably asked about Jonathan Drouin's arrival, and he made a significant statement that speaks volumes about the former Canadiens forward's talent.
"I don't know him personally, but I know Nathan was super excited when he found out [Drouin] was signing with us. I think that speaks volumes. Drouin is a player with undeniable offensive talent, and I believe he can perform well defensively, so I'm definitely excited about his arrival." - Cale Makar
Wow! The 2022 Norris Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy recipient seems very pleased with Drouin's acquisition. Cale Makar firmly believes he will bounce back and showcase his full talent in a competitive lineup like the Avalanche's.
One thing is certain, even though his stay in Montreal was somewhat disappointing, we strongly hope that the Quebecer will find joy playing alongside his good friend MacKinnon.
