Montreal Canadiens: Jake Allen's value is known, and it's surprising
The Montreal Canadiens have an impressive record of 5-2-1 after eight games, and among the key contributors to this strong performance is Jake Allen. The goaltender has been outstanding since the beginning of the season, with the exception of one or two goals in the season opener against Toronto.
Number 34 is currently playing like a true number one goaltender and is incredibly dominant. What's even more impressive is that he has delivered these remarkable performances with numerous scouts from other teams in the stands, which is even better if Kent Hughes intends to trade him.
During an appearance on Tony Marinaro's "Sick Podcast," Craig Button mentioned that Allen's value is surprising at the moment:
"If you're looking to improve your goaltending position, there's no chance you wouldn't look at Montreal (for Jake Allen) [...] I think the Canadiens could get a significant return in exchange for Jake Allen."
So, while it was initially thought that Jake Allen and his $3.4 million salary were on the high side, it turns out to be quite the opposite. He's a steal considering the performances he delivers night after night. Some teams are in desperate need of a goaltender at the moment, and the option of keeping Montembeault and Primeau must be tempting for Hughes.
Now, it remains to be seen what kind of offers the GM receives, but one thing is for certain, he must absolutely entertain those for the veteran.
