The Canadiens had a good start to the season, exceeding expectations. However, the fairy tale is now over, with eight losses in the last 10 games.

Three weeks ago, there was speculation about whether Kent Hughes would be a seller or buyer at the trade deadline, and as of today, the picture is becoming clearer.

For Kent Hughes, nothing has been decided yet, and everything is still possible:

"Wait and see," says Kent Hughes when asked about his intentions in the trade market. "Look at the Oilers; most experts said they were probably the Canadian team with the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup this season, and their start hasn't been easy. So, there are still 35-40 games before the trade deadline, we'll see where we are in the standings." - Via TVA Sports

Therefore, the possibilities are still there for success, and becoming a buyer at the deadline is on the table for Kent Hughes. The general manager won't sacrifice the future to acquire a rental player, but he might keep players like Tanner Pearson, for example, if the team is close to a playoff spot.

The strategy is subject to change. Hughes will remain patient, but he's not ruling anything out.
