New acquisition confirmed for the Canadiens by a journalist regarding the hiring of Fernando Pisani
It's quietly shifted behind the scenes at the Montreal Canadiens, as we learned of the departure of scout Matt Turek, who was responsible for the OHL region for the Tricolore's amateur scouting.
He was notably one of the main figures behind the discovery of Arber Xhekaj, as well as the selection of Owen Beck at the 33rd pick in the 2022 draft. He was in a conflict of interest position, having accepted a role as interim general manager for the Hamilton Bulldogs.
In connection with this departure, the Montreal organization has confirmed the hiring of Fernando Pisani to make up for the loss of Turek as a scout for the Ontario junior league. A former Edmonton Oilers player, Pisani has held various roles with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL and the University of Alberta's hockey team.
This is obviously a very significant hire for the Tricolore, as the Ontario amateur recruitment territory is one of, if not the largest for the National League.
Every year, the OHL is the league that provides the most young prospects to NHL teams. It's a pool of young talents to which teams dedicate a lot of time and investment, which makes Pisani's arrival very intriguing.
He will undoubtedly have a long-term impact on the organization and we sincerely hope he becomes a top-quality addition for the CH. The Canadiens cannot afford mistakes with a region as important as the OHL
