Pierre-Luc Dubois has made an important decision regarding the destinations he prioritizes
According to a text recently published by The Athletic's Arpon Basu, Pierre-Luc Dubois has reportedly revised his opinion on his next destination. While the Quebec native was adamant about playing for the Montreal Canadiens previously, he has since given thought to playing elsewhere to allow the Winnipeg Jets to complete a trade that could benefit them in the future.
"That's why he gave the Jets a list of 5-6 teams where he'd like to continue his career, instead of insisting that Winnipeg absolutely make a trade with the Montreal Canadiens. [Dubois wants to help the Jets, and he wants to do it right. He knows that giving them a list of 5-6 teams is much better for them than forcing them to trade with the Habs].
That was his original idea, to absolutely go to Montreal. According to a source, it was a decision Dubois made with his heart, but when he started thinking with his head and his logic, he opened his horizons. He opened his mind to other possibilities (than Montreal), other destinations that would make him happy in the long run."
Rumors that Pierre-Luc Dubois only wanted to play for the Montreal Canadiens were indeed true. The 24-year-old forward really wanted to wear the Habs jersey and Montreal was the only destination he wanted to pursue his career in.
However, Dubois took time to reflect on his situation and came to a rational conclusion that other teams in the NHL could be a good fit for him. This reflection is what led him to list down 5-6 teams to Kevin Cheveldayoff where he would accept being traded so he could sign a long term contract extension.
After all, it was the decision to make for both himself and the Jets or else Winnipeg would have had no choice but to accept an offer from Montreal that clearly didn't meet their GM's demands.
Although there is still a chance of seeing Pierre-Luc Dubois land in Montreal in the coming days, the Los Angeles Kings seem to have a huge lead in this case.
Should the Habs fail to get their hands on a top tier center during this draft, could Kent Hughes decide to go all in order to acquire his services? We will have a definite answer very soon.
