Yesterday, we learned that Logan Mailloux was invited to the AHL All-Star Game. A well-deserved honor for him, but it wasn't the case at the beginning of the season.

After an impressive training camp, many would have liked to see him start the season with the Canadiens, but the organization preferred him to learn to be a professional in Laval. And this strategy is paying off, as testified by Nicolas Cloutier.

"The reality is that Mailloux had a very challenging start to the season with the Laval Rocket after making a very good impression at the Montreal Canadiens' training camp.

On the ice, 'he wasn't comfortable,' said head coach Jean-François Houle. And it wasn't much better off the ice.

"At the beginning of the year, the maturity we see today wasn't there," Houle revealed to the media. [...]

Mailloux, likely used to dominating by relying on his junior talent, did not behave like a professional, and his teammates did not hesitate to point it out, sometimes in a passive-aggressive manner.

"The guys went after him a couple of times," Houle said. "I think that wakes you up as a player. They cut his laces at one point because he was always late. He got the lesson: 'Okay, I can't be late anymore.' Little things like that can be good for team spirit. It shows that a young player has to step up and respect the rules."

We did not expect this kind of statement about a player who has just been invited to the All-Star Game. Just a few weeks ago, he was considered totally immature with a glaring lack of seriousness. His on-ice performances reflected that as well.

Rest assured, the young defenseman has pulled himself together, worked hard, and understood what it means to be a professional. Jean-François Houle, the Rocket's head coach, says he has taken a giant leap and is much more mature now.

When you see the video of his teammates congratulating him on his All-Star Game invitation, you can immediately see that they are proud of him too.

It's important to remember that Mailloux is only 20 years old and has all the talent in the world. His size and talent have always been enough to make him part of the elite. There are many young players in his position who arrive in the pros and are as immature as he was.

What is impressive is how quickly he understood the message and progressed. It says a lot about his character and the type of person he is.

Logan Mailloux will be very good for a long time in Montreal, and you can be sure that he will adjust quickly when needed.
