Rafaël Harvey Pinard has made a significant decision about his future with the Habs and it could complicate matters for Kent Hughes
The renowned journalist Arpon Basu has provided updates on several important matters concerning the Tricolore in an article written on The Athletic website. He notably revealed a very interesting piece of information about the future of Rafaël Harvey-Pinard with the Montreal Canadiens.
While many fans were hoping to see the Quebecer sign a long-term contract with the team, this option seems to be increasingly unlikely. Indeed, Rafaël Harvey-Pinard seems to have decided to bet on himself by intending to sign a contract for a few seasons in order to sign a more lucrative deal later.
The logic behind this decision is easy to understand. Even though the forward excelled during his stint with the Montreal team last year, the fact that he has only played 38 games in the NHL would undoubtedly have reduced his value in the eyes of General Manager Kent Hughes.
"It seemed possible that the Canadiens could sign him at a discount, long term with a small salary, but this would no longer be the case.
Harvey-Pinard, who is eligible for salary arbitration, will in all likelihood sign a shorter-term contract." - Arpon Basu
The 24-year-old forward will thus have to prove himself next year to show that he truly deserves a big contract in two or three years.
RHP's phenomenal progress this season has been nothing short of remarkable. In 34 games with the Canadiens, he scored 14 goals and assisted 6 times, proving that he can definitely be a key element in Martin St. Louis's lineup.
One thing is certain, we can't wait to see him back on the Bell Centre ice!
