Sad statement involving the young goaltender of the Montreal Canadiens
The new journalist assigned to the activities of the Montreal Canadiens, Anthony Martineau, has given an excellent summary of his impressions from the training camp, and one specific passage has particularly caught our attention and sincerely deeply disappointed us.
Indeed, according to his words, he has never seen an athlete as dejected as Cayden Primeau currently is. The goaltender is having a tough training camp, knowing full well that this is possibly his last chance after spending the last four seasons with the Laval Rocket in the AHL.
Moreover, knowing that Samuel Montembeault and Jake Allen will be the starting goaltenders to begin the regular season, everything leads to believe that the young American goalie will have to go through waivers for the first time in his career. A situation that seems to visibly affect him and must also alter his performance on the ice.
Here are the rather concerning observations reported by Anthony Martineau:
«I have rarely seen an athlete, in the middle of training camp, look as dejected as Cayden Primeau.
Having spent several minutes with him on Saturday, in the press room, I can confirm that he is not in a good state of mind.
Tearful eyes and an evasive look, the young man really did not have the bite of a goalie who is fighting for his survival, which is indeed the case.
Is he affected more than we think by his current situation? His non-verbal and... some of his words make us believe so.
It's sad because he is a very likable young man. Nothing is decided at the moment. And he did have, it must be admitted, a good game on Sunday, during the traditional Reds vs. Whites (shutout for 30 minutes).
Let's wish him the best of luck. The talent is there. But he now has to show an ability to deliver... over a long period." - Anthony Martineau
Once perceived as the future number one goaltender of the organization, things seem to be getting worse for the young American. It's really sad to see that his mental state is deteriorating, he who should be rather hungry to try to earn a spot in Martin St-Louis's lineup.
For sure, we sincerely hope that he will manage to regain his balance in the coming weeks. Otherwise, a change of scenery could greatly benefit him to potentially relaunch his career with a new team.
This will be a case to watch, especially since Jake Dobes looked good last night and could steal his place in the team hierarchy this season.
