Samuel Montembeault sends a very clear message to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens
Samuel Montembeault is in the process of proving that he deserves the number one goaltender position, and it's time for things to move in the three-goalie situation.
The non-verbal cues from Martin St-Louis suggest that the decision to rotate three goalies for the past two months might not be his. Time is of the essence, and Kent Hughes doesn't seem to see the urgency in this matter.
In addition to his outstanding performances, which are truly inspiring, Samuel Montembeault is trying to convey his message to his GM by working even harder.
The Quebecois goaltender leaves nothing to chance, doubling his efforts. Last week, he was on the ice during a morning skate with random practice, something we rarely see.
He did it again on Sunday, being the only player on the ice at the Bell Centre.
"Samuel Montembeault was the only player on the ice Sunday morning.
He backed up Cayden Primeau in Buffalo the day before, as Jake Allen did not make the trip.
[...]
I like to see Montembeault, the day after a trip to Buffalo, jump on the ice and work on the finer details (lateral movements, explosive movements forward, positioning)."
- Anthony Martineau, TVA Sports One thing is certain: his message to Kent Hughes is clear. He won't sit idly on his contract, and he is somewhat giving the green light to his general manager to trade Allen or Primeau.
