Samuel Montembeault temporarily left the Montreal Canadiens organization to wait for them in Tampa Bay
It's exhausting for many, and I must admit it's tiring for me as well, the famous goaltending trio for the Canadiens.
Samuel Montembeault is the number one goalie, and Cayden Primeau is the number two, that's it. Jake Allen, even though he is a very good veteran and highly appreciated, needs to go.
The only positive aspect of the Canadiens' goaltending situation is during back-to-back games. In these situations, the Canadiens have made it a habit to send the starting goaltender for the second night to the game location the day before so that he is fresh and ready, instead of returning in the early hours of the morning with his teammates.
That's exactly what the team did with Samuel Montembeault, who was already in Tampa Bay for Saturday night's game.
"Samuel Montembeault will face the Lightning on Sunday in Tampa Bay. To be ready for the big duel that awaits him on New Year's Eve, Montembeault left his teammates for Tampa Bay on Saturday." - Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports
Usually, Samuel is either in the net or the backup to the starting goalie. That's the exact reason why Primeau was at the end of the bench in Sunrise on Saturday night.
