Star forward William Nylander to Montreal? There is a major development, and Canadiens fans can officially forget about it
The name of forward William Nylander has been constantly mentioned in the Canadiens' circles in recent months. The Swedish player will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the current season.
The Maple Leafs already have three forwards earning more than 10 million dollars per year, and their strategy of relying entirely on offense clearly does not work. For this reason, many believed they would not sacrifice everything to sign Nylander.
Think again. It seems they still believe in their strategy, as Nylander is reportedly on the verge of signing an eight-year contract.
"Hearing Toronto and William Nylander closing 8x$11.5M extension. Full NMC all the way through."
- Elliotte Friedman
This is likely the salary he would have had elsewhere, but once again, the Maple Leafs are mortgaging their salary cap for the same four players who have been unable to bring them success.
It's said that defenses win championships. Clearly, the Leafs are trying to change that saying. Let's hope their strategy works for them.
On the other hand, Kent Hughes will apparently have to look to another forward to help his team.
